Dune
“DUNE”
Well there if you are a sci-fi movie fan or a fan of this series of books then you have probably been looking forward to this movie for a bit now. If you are not a fan of sci-fi then you are probably curious what all the hype is all about. Well if you are the later ill bring you up to speed. Dune is a sci-fi series of 6 books the first of which came out in 1965 and the last was published in 1985 written by Frank Herbert. They have always had a cult following and the first adaptation of the books to film was highly anticipated especially after the release of Star Wars in 1977.
While the David Lynch 1984’s film version of the book has its flaws among its fans it is still loved. This new star studded film version of the books is a much better adaptation and it is absolutely gorgeous. Director Denis Villeneuve definitely has a passion for the material and it shows. The cast is jammed packed for this film and everyone seems to be at the top of their game minus a few performances that seemed a bit wooden I was really happy with the work everyone put into this version of the film. Without getting to deep into the weeds over the details of the movie it is the story of a noble son who is born to save his planet his people and most of all his family (no pressure)by traveling to the most dangerous planet to retrieve it.
Along the way he comes to realize that some things are exactly what he has been told and others are a little grayer and not so black and white as what he has been told. Listen there is a lot to love about this film if you love sci-fi and if you are not a sci-fi fan you can probably skip it. This is the kind of tent pole movie that in a pre-COVID world would have done huge business in theaters but I fear that in the current theater climate even though things are opening up and getting better I feel that most hard core fans of this series will watch it in the comfort of their own homes on HBO plus but I implore you if you are considering seeing this film please go see it on the biggest screen possible that is the only way to appreciate all the hard work that everyone involved in this film put into it so that maybe we get another one eventually. I give this film 3 out of 5 Yellow Suckers.
